You’re probably familiar with the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer t-shirts Roots sells every year. Did you know all net proceeds go to Rethink Breast Cancer? Rethink is a Canadian volunteer-driven charity helping young people who are concerned about and affected by breast cancer. Funds raised go toward education, research and support programs.
When it comes to fundraising, Rethink does a lot more than sell t-shirts. This year they’re trying something new and exciting… Breast Fest Film Festival 2008 – the world’s first film festival dedicated to breast cancer awareness. Through a variety of film genres and new media, Breast Fest will be showcasing many issues surrounding breast cancer in significant and interesting ways, and connecting people to the breast cancer cause. Why don’t you check it out…

UPDATE (Nov. 11, 2008)
I am officially helping Rethink Breast Cancer promote the Breast Fest Film Festival 2008.
It's a terrific idea, and the latest evidence that the breast cancer awareness has, far and away, the savviest marketing behind it in the entire medical/illness field.
ReplyDeleteHey Darren, Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteAgreed and Rethink has done a remarkable job of getting creating awareness for a younger demographic who also need to be aware that this disease can affect younger women too. My mother was only 32 when she was diagnosed.
I've seen a few interesting initiatives from the Heart and Stroke Foundation (more so in the U.S.) and the Movember movement seems to be catching some steam but none with the same impact.
This is such a great idea - I love it!
ReplyDeleteBrenna, Agreed! They've had lots of community involvement too in terms of choosing the films and rating them as well.
ReplyDeleteI like how they are helping build awareness around breast cancer in innovative ways.
Let me know if you're interested in seeing any of the films. I may be able to get you a pair of tickets.
Cheers,
Eden
