Bargainista shape up for 2009 contest

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably been thinking of new goals for 2009. Maybe you call them resolutions, maybe you don’t.

One of my goals – and I have many – is to lose some of the weight I’ve gained back since the Nutrisystem Challenge last year. Fortunately, NutriSystem has kindly offered to give me another month of food. Now, if I would only get up the nerve to place my order.

What I really need to do is kick up my activity level.

Enough about me. I want to hear about you. What are you doing to help stay in shape this year?

Leave me a comment, photo or video clip, provided I have permission to use it on the blog.

What’s in it for you?
I have a women’s 2-pc. workout outfit from Vata Brazil. It’s supposed to be one-size-fits-all and claims to be made with fabric they call “10x stretch”. I think it’s probably for women sized 6-10 or 12. The pants sell for $89.99. I don’t have a price for the top but I think it’s between $30-$40. I’ve included pictures except the top I’m giving away is white.

Entries are due by Sunday, Jan. 25, 11:59 p.m. EST. (Open to Canadian residents only.)

Michael Allison will be picking the winning entry and here’s why:

We met in person when he was in Toronto last summer and we’ve stayed in touch. Last month he asked me if I’d like to run a contest with outfits donated by his (now former) client Vata Brazil.

He did an excellent job on the blogger outreach side of things. Why? He did his research. He didn’t schmooze me in any way and most of all, he built a relationship with me. When he had a client who he thought might interest me, he got in touch and tailored his approach.

Unfortunately, Michael lost his job due to downsizing since he was one of the new guys. If you’re in Vancouver looking to hire a sharp guy with a background in communications with a solid understanding of social media, Michael’s your man.

That is a cool-looking outfit. Eden, your post is timely for me, because I realized this week that I have fallen off the fitness wagon! How did my five-times-a-week gym sessions turn into once-every-other-week? Eeek. I have resolved to get back on track, starting today. At 4 p.m. I am breaking early to hit the Y for an hour. And I'm going to go there four times a week, no matter the weather or workload. If you want to be fitness buddies, let me know, and we can keep each other on track!

  2. this year to stay in physical shape i'm aiming for four cardio sessions per week, and two pilates videos per week. AND to stay in mental shape and not go nuts, i'm only stepping on the scale once per month instead of once per week. or day.

  3. Donna it's a lovely outfit. The original plan was for me to get one and give another three away during the month. When I tried it on (only for a minute, tags are still in tact), the kids just laughed because it's been almost two years since I've gone to a gym. The idea of having you as a fitness buddy is appealing. Now, I need to figure out what I want/need to do. ;)

Eurydice, Wow! You're motivated. Let me know how the monthly weigh-ins work. I think I need to go back to weekly.

Good luck to both of you!

  4. I love the outfit (the pants especially) and you know what, that's reason enough to get into shape.

But what am I doing about it? Sadly, nothing. I'm procrastinating like a mofo and only thinking about what I should be doing instead of actually doing it. (At least I'm being honest.)

Maybe with a new outfit I'll be motivated to get off my butt and do something... maybe...

I've been working out regularly since my daughter was born two years ago. I'm lucky that she's been relatively patient with my work outs, from napping in the bouncy chair to playing in the playpen and now running around the play room that is connected to my home gym. I'm also lucky to have an elyptical machine at home, without it, I'd be lost! I usually work out two out of every three days. I do 30 min of cardio and then go between upper and lower body workouts using the balance ball, resistence bands and medicine ball. I purchased books for each of these pieces of equipment that have a good range of exercises that give a whole body workout. I rotate between the three because I get bored easily and it's always good to challenge your muscles in different ways. My goal is to be able to continue these workout despite a possible losing of nap time (when I get my workout in during the days when we have playdates in the morning and have to run around in the afternoon) and a hoped for second pregnancy. I haven't bought new workout clothes in years. The shorts I wear now are ones I bought over ten years ago! That is such a cute outfit and it would definetly help me stay motivated to keep working out!

p.s. I just recently started reading your blog and love it!

    ZoeyBella, can certainly relate.

Patricia, glad you like the blog. You're story is so inspiring. Where do you get the motivation?

Good luck to the two of you!

  7. This past summer I started running/jogging at least three times a week, joined a Volleyball league in my area, and started indoor rock climbing again. The cold weather put an end to my trail running and the holidays put a serious glitch in my healthy eating habits! I've gained back some of the wieght I worked so hard to lose last summer and I'm more determined than ever to get rid of it again...and more!

I love rock climbing and I can feel myself getting stronger! I know that Volleyball once a week and the occassional bouldering session is not going to get me the results I want! So I have started bring my gym clothes to work where there is a small, but functional gym with a treadmill and elliptical machince that should get my cardio back up! I am excited to seem some positive changes and hope to be in bikini shape by May!! :)

This outfit would be a great motivator and accessory to my new program! And it looks like the pants would be great for rock climbing! :)

  9. My motivation? That's a hard one! I've been battling my weight much of my life, trying to stay at a healthy weight. After my daughter was born I was stuck at a weight I was REALLY unhappy with! I worked really hard and ended up at my goal weight which was 15 lb's lighter then before I had my baby. I guess my motivation is knowing how hard I worked to get here and how good it feels to be happy with my body. I also know that I'll likely have to work hard again after I have another baby and I know that the closer I am to my goal weight now, the less I'll have to lose then!
My day to day motivation is definetly helped by having a TV and PVR in the basement. I record all my trash TV shows that my husband would never watch with me and splurge on them while working out! Biggest Loser is definetly motivating and always ensures I work out on Wednesday mornings!
