Buy Design Spring Social for Windfall

I learned about Windfall a few months ago and think it’s a wonderful organization. Windfall is a clothing bank – it receives donations of new clothing from retailers. Then it redistributes these clothes to people living in poverty and/or in crisis – 64,000 in the GTA to be specific – for instance, by providing children with winter outerwear and adults with new clothes for job interviews. Last year, by working with corporate sponsors and partnering with social service agencies, Windfall distributed almost 1,000,000 clothing and personal items to people in need for free.

When Meg Stoudt asked me to help spread the word about their spring fundraiser Buy Design Spring Social for Windfall, I couldn’t refuse.

What?
Buy Design Spring Social for Windfall – A dirty thirties-themed fundraiser featuring a mess hall auction, croquet and badminton lawns and a swinging dance hall tent. Have fun sipping sidecars, sours and planters punch while parading across the big band stage in the boater pageant. Test your skills throwing darts at the Beauty Balloon Buster game and sample brown-bagged bites from the country fare stands and bake sale.

HoHoTO Hangover Auction - the Daily Bread Food Bank

On Wednesday night I attended #hohoTO - the third event in a series initially conceived on Twitter by some hardworking Toronto folks a little over a year ago. Last year everyone thought it was incredible the community raised $25,000 within a matter or days. In August, the tally approached $15,000.

This time around, thanks to almost 700 people who bought tickets and a truckload of sponsors and prizes raffled off at the event, almost $50,000 was raised for the Daily Bread Food Bank. But see, that’s the hitch. Not quite $50,000 was raised and there are still some prizes that weren’t claimed at the event. So, what’s a savvy organizing team to do? Have a HoHoTO Hangover Auction on Twitter, of course.

You can share in the fun and holiday cheer Tuesday, December 22, starting at 8 p.m. ET. All you need is a Twitter account and your chequebook. Besides, doesn’t it feel good when you can do your holiday shopping and help others in need at the same time? See you there!

Sale and fundraiser at Sharon's Collection

My friend Perla works part-time at Sharon’s Collection and she asked me to tell you about a special sale they’re having on Thursday night. Part of the proceeds (sorry, they didn’t give me the deets) will go to SickKids. I like supporting local retailers, especially those who give back to the community.

Sharon’s is a fun little shop so if you have a chance, you may want to check it out.

What?
A one-night only special evening at Sharon’s Collection with special discounts, champagne, treats and a visit from designer Bella Donna.
A portion of the proceeds will help support SickKids and degenerative diseases.

Where?

Beauty, Bling & Bubbly helps Habitat for Humanity

Last week Cake and Foxy teamed up and hosted a Beauty, Bling & Bubbly fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity at The Boiler House in the Distillery District. Cake, Foxy at discount prices with proceeds going to a great cause, I couldn’t resist. Zoe, Rayanne and Michael came along with me and we did a bit of shopping and watched hoards of women going crazy.

I bought some Jungle Lemon Tart scented bath and shower “froth” and Desserted Island scented moisturizing body glaze. The latter worked wonders in the bath for my aching hip (it had be tormented by a sports med specialist a few hours earlier). We got some pink GlacĂ©au Vitamin Water and pink shopping bag swag too.

Zoe, the video ninja couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell our story visually. Check out her awesome video!

Did you go to Beauty, Bling & Bubbly? What did you think? Buy anything?
