Not your average Joe

Okay, so it's Saturday morning. You've been to the gym, you're dressed, showered, your hair is done and make-up is on and you're ready to face the day. All you want is that one new thing to wear but...

You've got umpteen things to accomplish this weekend. You're fridge and kitchen cupboards are bare and you've got several mouths to feed. What's a girl to do?

Have no fear, Joe is here!

Now you can shop for the latest fashions and buy your groceries under one roof! Loblaws Superstores, with former Club Monaco/Caban guru Joe Mimram at the helm, launched the Joe line (under the name Joe Fresh) several months ago to little fanfare. The fall 2006 collection is another story, according to my friend. Linda – a die-hard Banana Republic and Abercrombie & Fitch shopper.

Tell Bargainista what you think. Check out the cheap chic at Joe - and remember to complete the online survey for your chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree.

Winners and losers

Some people have luck with discount department stores. Not me! I once found my husband a great Ben Sherman leather belt for only $25 but that was an exception. I never find anything for myself. Some of my friends have a great knack for sorting through the racks and scoring the latest designer sweater for next to nothing. Oh, I wish I had that kind of patience...

And boy, was my patience tested recently. I tried returning a toy my son received as a gift. Part of the price tag was still on with the store's name and product item number intact. I didn't have the bill and the store didn't want to take it back because they said it was from a past season. They finally offered me $3 and said they would donate the toy to charity. My son decided to keep it and donate it to Sick Kids himself. What a mensch!

I'm used to the no hassle return policy at my neighbourhood Mastermind, so this whole experience took me by surprise but I'm grateful to that other store for making me a proud mom.

If the shoe fits...

Capezio just launched it's new website where you can preview their new fall footwear. Good news for my girlfriends who just can't get enough shoes - sign up for their e-newsletter and they'll give you an online coupon for $25 off your next purchase of $75 or more. I think I'm going to get the new pair of Franco Sarto's I've been dreaming about. If only I could buy them online...

Why Bargainista?

Every woman who loves shopping loves a good bargain. I've always learned about the best sales and promotions from girlfriends who have shared e-mails with special offers. Viral marketing is nirvana for those of us who love nothing more than spending a Saturday afternoon at the mall. Let's face it, most of us could write the book on shopping bulimia!

After the recent flop of the Starbucks friends and family promotion, I decided it was time to start my own blog and let all my girlfriends (and their girlfriends, sisters, cousins, and so on -- you get the picture) share awesome promos and shopping stories.

What not?
This is not a commercial blog! I am not receiving any money (or any swag) for mentioning any companies or products. Any advertising on this blog is directly a result of the free space provided by Blogger ('cause why pay for something when they are giving it away for free?)

I am always looking for great deals and interesting shopping stories to share. Make sure to share yours by sending me an e-mail. (Editorial policy: All content on this blog represents the opinions of the author and contributors. Contributors may not promote services that they are profiting from without full disclosure and any such posts should be clearly identified as such. Astroturfing is not allowed.)

Right now! What are you waiting for? Get shopping!
