Contest: Tri-Cyclen Lo asks “Who Inspires U?”

Janssen-Ortho, the makers of the birth control pill Tri-Cyclen Lo (scroll down for product info.), is trying to connect with young women through an online video campaign. They seem to be marketing to the same demo as Alesse only with a less catchy name.

As a mom with a young teen son, the Alesse ads make me cringe. I’m just not ready to go there. On the other hand, I really like how the Tri-Cyclen Lo campaign is asking young women “Who inspires U”. It’s focusing on overall empowerment of women instead of empowering them only in a sexual way.

Now for the contest...
If you’re into video and sharing your inspiration in public, you’ll have a chance to win big. There’s a $10,000 grand prize! If you’re video is one of the top 3 viewed, you’ll win $500. But that’s not all, every month from June through September, you’ll have a chance to win a prize pack worth $1,000. Check out the rules and regs.

Have a look at the Who Inspires U? video promo:

Here’s a list of the prize pack items for June (it looks pretty sweet to me):
Telus Blackberry Curve
Marc Jacobs bag
Cole Haan Sunglasses
$25 Starbucks gift card
Moleskine Hard Cover Journal
MAC Lipstick
MAC Bronzer

What do you think about this Tri-Cyclen Lo promo? Would it influence your birth control decision? How ’bout the contest and prizes?

  1. Tri-Cyclen is probably going to hate me for this post, but I have to tell you, Eden, that Tri-Cyclen is one of the worst birth control pills I've ever tried. It's very strong (unlike Alesse), and it is associated with multiple side effects. It made me pretty crazy for the three months or so that I was taking it, and then I was told by my doctor to stop. It basically brought out the worst in me, and made me question my own sanity.

That said, at the time I did have emotional problems that were most likely exacerbated by the use of Tri-Cyclen. Moreover, different birth controls work for different people, and (by the order of several doctors) I am unable to take any birth control pill at all. All that to say...maybe it's just me.

  2. Tiff, I'm sure readers will appreciate hearing from you. As for me, I'm not selling Tri-Cyclen just the promo because I think it's interesting and illustrates how pharmaceutical companies are trying to connect with their customers online without advertising, per se.

I didn't have a great experience with birth control pills either and I know lots of women who had no trouble at all. Everyone is different, just like you said.

AH! this contest is screaming at me to participate :) fun times for using my video-making skills!

i know 100% for sure it will be about my mom. as for the prize pack? uber cool stuff but the chance to make a great video outside of the realm of my blog is what really motivates me. That and a chance to show off just how amazing my mom is.

Tiff, i'm really sorry you had a bad experience with Tri-Cyclen, but posting a comment like this can be irresponsible. You admitted to having emotional problems prior to using this birth control pill. I had a similar experience with depo-provera, or so i thought, until i got out of an unhealthy relationship and realized it wasn't the pill that was making me crazy, it was the relationship AND the fact that i was having sex, which in itself makes you pretty insane - all the feelings, emotions, doubts, anxiety, exhilaration, ups and downs that come from becoming a woman, if you will. I later switched to Tri-Cylen and had absolutely no side effects, I was on it for years. I felt very balanced while taking this pill. So my point is, it's good to share your opinion...now i'm sharing mine so other readers out there won't blacklist this medication.
